Plan the handoffs, not just the flight
A good medical trip has a plan before arrival, while you are in Colombia, and after you return home.
Before paying a deposit
- Verify the clinician and facility independently.
- Get the treatment plan, major inclusions and exclusions in writing.
- Ask who handles urgent questions and complications after discharge.
- Understand whether another trip may be required.
Before flying
- Confirm what records or imaging the provider actually needs.
- Ask how much pre-procedure time is needed in-country.
- Build buffer time around recovery rather than planning a vacation itinerary.
- Confirm payment methods, cancellation rules and travel-insurance limitations.
Before flying home
- Collect procedure notes, imaging and medication instructions.
- Know the red-flag symptoms that require urgent local evaluation.
- Know who owns follow-up and how your home clinician can contact the treating provider.
